Baku's New Message: Yerevan Has Accepted the New Reality, Hajiyev
The Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process is not limited to just signing documents. Azerbaijan affirms its commitment to peace through concrete steps. Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs in the Presidential Administration, stated this in an interview with the Turkish newspaper 'Milliyet.'
“Today, peace prevails in the South Caucasus. If the Armenian-Azerbaijani confrontation had continued, the sparks from the wars occurring among our neighbors could have spread to our region as well,” he noted.
Speaking about the internal political changes in Armenia, the presidential assistant positively assessed the concept of 'Real Armenia' declared by the current leadership of the country. “We see that the Armenian side, by accepting the new geopolitical reality, is gradually constructing its policy accordingly. Yerevan has realized that long-term occupation policies have ultimately harmed Armenia itself and have effectively turned it into a hostage of its own strategy. Today, the leadership of Armenia understands how crucial relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey are for the country’s development,” Hajiyev said.
He also addressed the issue of opening the Zangezur corridor. “In our opinion, this project has already become an integral part of the new geopolitical reality. It aligns not only with Azerbaijan's interests but also with those of Armenia. The Armenian side also understands that the development of transit routes and transportation connections is crucial for its economic growth and further development,” emphasized Hikmet Hajiyev, the head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs in the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan.
