The Foreign Ministry Does Not Comment on Reports Regarding Political Asylum for Mihran Poghosyan
The Foreign Ministry is not commenting on reports about granting or denying political asylum to former Chief of the Criminal Police Mihran Poghosyan.
Factinfo contacted the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anna Naghdalyan, who replied to our inquiry, saying, "The competent authority on this matter is the Prosecutor's Office, and they should provide comments in the public domain."
When asked if the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had been officially informed about this matter, Anna Naghdalyan responded that she could not comment.
It is noteworthy that media reports suggest conflicting information; some claim that Mihran Poghosyan has been granted political asylum, while others indicate that he has been placed under house arrest pending the extradition process.
Furthermore, Adviser to the Prosecutor General Gor Abrahamyan stated last night that the application for Mihran Poghosyan's extradition is currently under discussion, and the extradition process continues in accordance with established legal procedures.
It should be mentioned that to resolve the extradition process, on April 23, the Russian Prosecutor's Office approved the request to detain Mihran Poghosyan for 40 days, and the detention period will expire on June 2.
