Shawarma? Really? Kyiv Residents Criticize Zelensky for City Congratulations
The residents of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, were displeased with President Volodymyr Zelensky's congratulatory message dedicated to the city's day.
The president shared warm wishes on his Facebook page, but his words sparked criticism.
"I came to Kyiv in 2003. I know firsthand that there is a special affection for those who come to admire the city. Kyiv is a proud and stern city. It's wonderful to feel the blossoming linden trees and the aroma of shawarma in front of the metro stations," Zelensky wrote.
“Shawarma? Really? Though why be surprised, he couldn't come up with anything better,” commented users on social networks. “A city of happiness and sorrow, a city of revolution, freedom, and victories, temples, the Dnipro, and so on… This is how the city should be described, not through shawarma,” others added.
