Sooner Hrayr Tovmasyan Should Resign Than Gagik Harutyunyan, Says Simonian

I believe that Hrayr Tovmasyan, the President of the Constitutional Court, should resign sooner than Gagik Harutyunyan, the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council. This was stated by Alen Simonian, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, during a conversation with journalists.

“Hrayr Tovmasyan is a political entity. His election to the position of President of the Constitutional Court raises significant concerns among various legal experts. He does not inspire confidence among the public since he was a member of the Republican Party of Armenia, which has been rejected by the citizens of Armenia. He has authored many controversial and criticized laws, including the Constitution and the Electoral Code,” Simonian said.

For Alen Simonian, it is clear that if Hrayr Tovmasyan is the President of the Constitutional Court, then the Court is not independent. “I believe he represents not the Constitution of Armenia but rather the legacy of the Republican Party. I have never understood politicians who remain in a political team after its departure,” he noted.
