Unprecedented Trial to Take Place: 3 Presidents in 3 Different Capacities, Arthur Davtyan
The change of power that took place in Armenia has a connection to the progress and developments of the March 1 case, stated the Republic of Armenia's Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan during a press briefing with journalists in Parliament today.
"The most important effect in this case is that people started cooperating with the investigating body. You will see individuals making public statements. The change of power was related to the fact that citizens freely provided information, and the participants in the trial freely provided information and participated in conducting investigative actions," Davtyan added.
According to the Prosecutor General, the public will be able to see and evaluate the entire course of the March 1 case's trial. He noted that various rumors and discussions have been circulated about the events of March first at different times, but the public trial will reveal everything; the community will see and hear each piece of information.
"It will be an exceptional, unprecedented trial, and you will see at least 3 presidents from the Third Republic in different procedural statuses, along with numerous public and political figures, as well as current and former officials," Davtyan announced.
When asked whether the entire trial would be closed-door, Arthur Davtyan responded that there would be small sections that would be conducted in closed sessions.
"However, as a rule, you will hear people's testimonies publicly," he noted.
It should be mentioned that last week, the criminal case regarding March 1, for which four former high-ranking officials are defendants, has already been sent to court. The date for the start of the trial is still unknown.
