Julian Assange Sentenced to 50 Weeks in Prison in London
The London court in the capital of Great Britain has sentenced WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to 50 weeks in prison for breaching the conditions of his bail.
"You did not surrender to the police of your own free will; the Ecuadorian embassy had to allow the police to enter the building. You had a choice, and I reject all arguments for leniency regarding the punishment," the judge stated. He additionally noted that Assange's breach of bail conditions is beyond the scope of the serious charges brought against him.
Before the ruling was announced, the WikiLeaks founder expressed regret through his lawyers regarding his actions.
