I Will Not Reward Myself, Says Mayor Marutyan

The Mayor of Yerevan, Haik Marutyan, announced during a Facebook press conference on Azatutyun.am today that their administration has saved 7 billion drams over the past three months, which has not affected the city’s economy in any way.

Referring to the transport commission, Marutyan stated that its members have changed, and a wide range of representatives will be included, with recalculations being made. He mentioned that for transport regulation, at least two years are needed, provided there are no obstacles anywhere.

“We are talking about 200-250 million drams; this is a state-scale program and not just a matter for the city authorities,” he said.

Addressing the issues related to garbage, the mayor stated that he spends every Saturday and Sunday either at the landfill or under building refuse chutes. “I personally check, I am physically close to the issue, I have gloves in my car, and while waiting for someone to come, I quickly resolve that issue,” he said, emphasizing that the decision-makers will be the residents. The decision to remove the waste pipes will belong to the residents because the owners within the building are the residents, and the city hall does not have the authority to act without their consent.

Haik Marutyan mentioned that he is very familiar with the elevator issue and that they will be addressing it. “About 3,800 elevators need to be replaced over approximately 2-3 years; we are currently taking inventory, and we are at the stage of understanding where we will find that funding,” he said.

Regarding the issue of self-rewarding by regional governors, Mayor Marutyan noted that he has not rewarded himself and will not do so.

“We will distribute as planned in the 2018 budget, and we will review this issue in 2019,” he said.
