Under the most adverse scenario of climate change, by 2100, the inflow of river water to Lake Sevan could decrease by 34% or about 265 million cubic meters. This was reported to Sputnik Armenia by the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia in response to our written inquiries.

The reduction in the inflow of water from rivers flowing into Lake Sevan poses serious risks to the lake's water balance, as rivers are the main source of nourishment for the lake. The ministry indicated that climate change complicates the situation further and negatively impacts the state of the lake.

To restore Lake Sevan, it is necessary to raise the water level by 6 meters, which, according to the ministry's specialists, will allow for the restoration of the previous quantitative and qualitative indicators of the water, as well as prevent the eutrophication of the lake.
