Russia Has Been, Is, and Will Remain an Arctic Leading State: Lavrov
Russia has been, is, and will remain an Arctic leading state, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
“We will continue the comprehensive development of high latitudes as well as the improvement of infrastructure in the Arctic zone in accordance with Russian legislation and the country’s development goals,” he said in an interview with Arktik.ru.
The Russian Federation will continue to recognize Arctic maritime areas as an integral part of the World Ocean. The provisions of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which enshrine special rights and obligations for Arctic coastal states, are applicable here. The commitment to these rights and obligations has been enshrined in the Ilulissat Declaration, adopted in 2008 by the Arctic
