EU Welcomes Progress Between Armenia and Azerbaijan
The European Union has welcomed the progress made between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the past year. This was announced by Anita Hipper, spokesperson for the EU’s Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Service.
The developments refer to the agreements reached on August 8, 2025, in Washington. "The initiation of the draft peace agreement and the signing of a joint declaration regarding the peace process on August 8, 2025, became historic steps towards the full normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia," Hipper stated.
According to her, since then, both sides have made significant advancements. The EU has highlighted the removal of trade and transit restrictions, the release of detained individuals, and increased communication between representatives of the two countries within the framework of the “Peace Bridge” initiative.
At the same time, Brussels considers the continued implementation of the reached agreements, as well as the signing and ratification of the peace treaty, to be crucial. The EU also emphasizes the importance of the development of connections, trade, and energy cooperation between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Hipper noted that it is necessary to continue the delimitation and demarcation processes, address humanitarian issues, and work towards reconciliation between the two societies. "The EU is ready to provide additional support and expertise in all these areas," she added.
It is worth noting that on August 8, 2025, the text of the agreement on the establishment of peace and state relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan was preliminarily signed in Washington. The meeting was attended by U.S. President Donald Trump, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
