The U.S. has two primary goals regarding Iran: to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to ensure stable energy prices. This was stated by U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance in an interview with Fox News.

According to him, the Trump administration is using diplomatic, military, and economic tools 'very selectively' to achieve these objectives.

Vance noted that the situation continues to remain unpredictable, asserting that Iran often fails to meet its commitments. 'One thing I can say with confidence is that I believe this will end with the U.S. in a stronger position, Iran not having nuclear weapons, and the Strait of Hormuz returning to a state where oil and gas prices are stable for the American people,' Vance said.

On June 17, the U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding to start negotiations aimed at reaching a final agreement. However, later negotiations hit a deadlock due to disagreements over security guarantees and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
