"The Jail is Not a Sanatorium": Chalabyan's Wife on His Health Issues and Detention Conditions
Avetik Chalabyan's wife, Anahit Adamyan, revealed that her husband has been in detention for 50 days, with limited communication opportunities. Adamyan stated that Chalabyan has heart issues and requires constant medical supervision.
“At this moment, we don’t have serious problems, but he needs to be under constant monitoring and undergo tests. The jail is not the last sanatorium for him,” she said.
Adamyan also described the conditions of detention, noting that 4 people are kept in a space of about 12 square meters, and they are given only one hour a day to leave the area. “To understand the conditions, I’ll say that 4 people are in a 12 sq/m space. They have only 1 hour to get out,” Adamyan pointed out.
Meanwhile, today, on August 12, the "Hayakve" National-Civic Union is holding a public event in Yerevan’s Saryan Park in support of the detained Avetik Chalabyan and, as they term it, other political prisoners. The event will feature speeches from human rights defenders and public figures, a thematic installation titled "Tied Microphone," an exhibition of posters with quotes from Chalabyan, and the action "Letter to Avetik."
It is noteworthy that Avetik Chalabyan was arrested on June 24 on charges of attempting to obstruct citizens' expression during elections in Armenia.
