Mirzoyan Responds to Putin: We Will Decide When the Time Comes
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, has commented on the statement made by the President of Russia regarding Armenia's choice to either remain in the EAEU or move towards the EU. Responding to a question from a NEWS.am correspondent, Mirzoyan addressed the tough statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
President Putin indicated that Armenia must decide whether to stay in the EAEU or “politely request a withdrawal” and move towards the European Union. Mirzoyan noted that due to the pre-election campaign, not all statements can be followed closely; however, he added, “But specifically regarding that episode you mentioned, we have always said that when the time comes for Armenia to make a choice between the EAEU and the EU, we will understandably make that decision.”
According to the Minister, there is nothing new in this regard, and currently, Armenia continues its activities as a member of the EAEU. He also emphasized that it is no secret that the Armenian people's aspirations for Europe exist. “When the time comes to decide, we will decide,” concluded Mirzoyan.
