The US is Preparing New Action Against Iran, Media Reports
The Trump administration is considering sending thousands of additional troops to the Middle East as part of preparations for a new phase of action against Iran, according to Reuters.
The administration is discussing the possibility of conducting ground operations in Iran. Options for expanding operations include securing safe passage for tanks through the Strait of Hormuz, primarily utilizing air and naval forces, as well as the potential deployment of troops on Iran’s coastline, according to four sources, including two American officials.
There is also discussion about sending ground troops to the Kharg Island, a major hub for Iranian oil exports. One source described such operations as 'very risky' due to the threat of missiles and drones from Iran.
Forces are also being considered for deployment to protect highly enriched uranium stockpiles. Reuters sources do not believe that sending ground forces is inevitable; however, they do not disclose planning details. Experts note that protecting uranium stockpiles is extremely challenging, even for US special operations forces.
