Parliamentary Commission Rejects Opposition Bill on 'Political Prisoners'
The National Assembly of Armenia's commission has rejected the opposition's bill concerning 'political prisoners'.
"There are political prisoners in Armenia. They meet the criteria defined by the PACE resolution 1900 of 2012. This is a serious issue for our state," stated the main rapporteur of the bill, Elinar Vardanyan, a member of the 'Armenia' faction.
The accompanying rapporteur and chairman of the Standing Committee on Legal Affairs, Vladimir Vardanyan, countered by stating that Armenia is a country under monitoring by the PACE, and regularly, PACE publishes reports on Armenia's democratic developments, where there is no mention of any issue regarding political prisoners.
