The Human Rights Defender Sends Letter to the Prosecutor General Regarding Police Violence Incident
In response to media inquiries, it has been reported that following the publication of a video by a journalist on February 3, a study was initiated in the office of the Human Rights Defender, Anahit Manasyan.
A letter was sent to the Prosecutor General's Office on the same day with the aim of initiating criminal proceedings and providing a legal assessment of the individual's actions. The Human Rights Defender, Anahit Manasyan, has repeatedly emphasized that any manifestation of violence is strictly unacceptable and condemnable. Each incident must receive an appropriate legal assessment, and those responsible must be held accountable. The state has clear legal obligations in this regard.
The Human Rights Defender considers it crucial to conduct a swift, objective, and comprehensive investigation into such cases and to provide the public with relevant information.
It should be noted that all similar cases are under the direct attention of the Human Rights Defender, and necessary actions are being taken within the scope of the Defender's authority.
For information and assistance, the Human Rights Defender can be contacted by calling the hotline at 116, and during non-working days and hours, at 096-116-100.
Earlier, it was reported that regarding the video circulating online involving a police officer, there is an ongoing internal investigation in the Ministry of Internal Affairs' internal security and anti-corruption department. The authority of the officer seen in the video has been suspended. A report has been filed concerning the apparent crime, stated Narik Sargsyan, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on his Facebook page.
