EU to Present Draft for 20th Sanctions Package Against Russia
The European Commission may soon present a draft of the 20th sanctions package against Russia to EU member states. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing its sources. The Polish RMF radio also conveyed the same information, noting that the discussion of the new sanctions is scheduled for Wednesday.
At the end of January, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that the EU intends to adopt the 20th sanctions package on the fourth anniversary of military operations, on February 24th. According to Euractiv, the discussed restrictions include a ban on servicing tankers transporting Russian oil, limitations on the export of luxury goods to Russia, and a reduction in EU quotas for the import of Russian fertilizers.
Additionally, according to Bloomberg, the new sanctions package may include further restrictions targeting the activities of Russian banks and oil companies.
It is noteworthy that the EU's 19th sanctions package against Russia was approved at the end of October 2025. These restrictions mainly affected revenues from Russia's energy sector and tightened control over schemes for circumventing sanctions through third countries.
