Only 18.3% of those enrolled pay insurance premiums, says Anahit Avanesyan
The Minister of Health of the Republic of Armenia, Anahit Avanesyan, has stated that only 18.3% of individuals enrolled in the universal health insurance system are paying insurance premiums, while the remaining population is under state care.
According to her, there are currently 1,371,181 individuals enrolled in the health insurance system. Of this number, 39.9% are individuals under 18, 32.5% are aged 65 and above, and those earning more than 200,000 AMD make up 18.3%. Groups receiving social assistance constitute 9.3%.
“In other words, only 18.3% of the total group is paying insurance premiums, while the others are under state care,” the minister said. Avanesyan added that this figure is significant and indicates that state resources are largely directed towards citizens' healthcare services.
