Environment Minister on Azerbaijan's Participation at COP17
The member countries of COP17 are 196, and the inviting party is not only Armenia but also the UN. Armenia is not only hosting the event but also presiding over it. This was reported by Environment Minister Hamazasp Matosyan during a year-end press conference when asked whether representatives from Azerbaijan would participate in the event.
He stated that this is not just Armenia's event but a global platform. The minister noted that all countries are informed about the dates of the event and the organizational processes. Official invitations have not yet been sent, but they will be dispatched soon in collaboration with the UN.
Matosyan mentioned that all countries' environmental ministries or relevant authorized bodies are already informed, and significant participation from high-ranking officials and ministers is expected. At the same time, it is still too early to specify which countries will confirm their participation.
The minister emphasized that one of the goals of the event is to work together on common environmental issues, and no country can be excluded from this process. He added that Armenia is ready to host all delegations and all countries.
It is worth reminding that the COP17 Conference on Biodiversity will take place in Yerevan in October 2026.
