US National Security New Strategy Will Impact NATO Expansion: Russian Foreign Ministry
The new US National Security strategy is set to affect NATO's expansion. This was stated by Alexander Grushko, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
He noted that the leadership of the alliance refers to the Washington treaty, which outlines the "open door" policy, indicating that any European country can become a member of the organization when discussing expansion. At the same time, all decisions within NATO are made by consensus, and the differing opinions of even one member country are taken into account, Grushko emphasized.
“Therefore, Washington's new strategic vision will certainly impact the 'endless' process of the alliance's expansion,” said the Deputy Foreign Minister.
On December 5, the United States published a new national security strategy. The document identifies Washington's priority interests as the rapid resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and the restoration of strategic stability with Russia.
