US to Cut Assistance to Ukraine After G7 Credit Payments: Politico

The United States plans to reduce its assistance to Ukraine after disbursing the latest tranches of the credit line approved during the administration of former President Joe Biden for 2024, according to European publication Politico, citing sources from the EU's diplomatic service.

Reportedly, the American side made this announcement during a virtual meeting on December 8 with finance ministers from the G7 countries and leaders of major international financial organizations, including the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Similar to Japan, the US has also declined to join the EU's scheme for seizing frozen Russian assets. On October 2, Politico reported that G7 EU countries were pressuring Japan and the United States to seize Russian assets located within their territories.

On December 3, current US President Donald Trump stated that the US will no longer spend its own resources to assist Ukraine and that NATO is purchasing weapons from Washington to supply to Kyiv.
