The Worst Indicators Are in the Field of Justice and the Effectiveness of State Institutions: Khachatryan
Many countries are labeled as strong, but they are superficially strong. Essentially, the state has taken on a tremendous burden in resolving various social issues for its citizens, but that does not equate to a strong state—it is a weak state. It would be more appropriate for the state to be small, to clearly fulfill its obligations, and to actively participate in society, with citizens and businesses, rather than presenting itself as a strong state.
This was stated by the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachatryan, during the first conference of representatives of state bodies.
“Today, strength and weakness are not defined by how well you are able to solve the problems set before the state by society. What is more important is how effective we are,” he noted.
The president mentioned that he is conducting long-term observations of various international indices and statistics, and based on these, two major issues facing Armenia can be identified.
“The worst indicators are in the rule of law, justice, or fairness sectors; the second is the effectiveness of state institutions. These are the two indicators. As for other areas, where issues of financial stability, economic freedom, and foreign trade are concerned, we have made significant progress,” Khachatryan added.
