Mandatory Military Service Duration Reduced to 1.5 Years
The duration of mandatory military service will be 1.5 years instead of 2 years. The National Assembly adopted the decision in its first reading.
66 lawmakers voted in favor of the bill, 4 against, and 22 abstained.
It is important to note that the service period for conscripts in Armenia will now be set at 18 months, effective for those summoned for mandatory military service after January 1, 2026.
The government’s draft decision on declaring a winter conscription in 2025 anticipates the process of replenishing the Armed Forces to begin on January 7, 2026, for those conscripted during the 2025 winter draft, who will serve for the new 18-month term.
The reduction in the service period will not apply to individuals currently serving mandatory military service as of January 1, 2026.
