Guidelines for Calculating Atmospheric Pollutants and Emissions to be Developed
The newspaper “Fact” reports that the Ministry of Environment has presented for public discussion a project on the approval of methodological guidelines for calculating emissions of air pollutants (harmful substances) from mobile sources.
Currently, there are no legislatively established methodological guidelines in the Republic of Armenia that allow for the calculation of emissions of air-polluting substances from both stationary and mobile sources. In the absence of comprehensive inventorying of air pollutants from mobile sources, a scientifically justified and precise approach to reducing atmospheric pollution becomes impossible.
The proposed methodological guidelines aim to ensure a unified approach to calculating emissions from mobile sources in accordance with international standards, thereby ensuring the comparability of data and the consistency of calculations from both road and non-road vehicles.
The adoption of this order will lay the groundwork for establishing a unified accounting and inventory system for air pollutants from mobile sources, as well as defining a common methodology for calculating emissions from these sources (both road and non-road transport). This will ensure the comparability and accuracy of the data regarding emissions from mobile sources, enhance the scientific basis for policy decision-making, and improve the preparation of state reports on air quality in accordance with international standards. The results of emissions calculations in Armenia will be compatible with the data from EU member countries and other regional states, thus ensuring high quality and compliance in international reporting.
