Germany Knew About US Peace Plan for Ukraine in Advance, Media Reports
The German authorities have been aware since the end of October about the new US peace plan intended for the resolution of the Ukraine conflict, despite public statements by German officials to the contrary. According to TASS, referencing sources from Berliner Zeitung, security agencies that provide advice to the chancellor and his staff received information about the plan on October 29.
The publication states that German intelligence services had knowledge of the initiative's details, and the National Security Council discussed them on November 11. However, on November 19, German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul stated that the US had not informed them about the plan, while the chancellor's office head, Torsten Frey, claimed the following day that he was personally unaware of the initiative.
It is noted that following the leak of the program's details, there was a 'real panic' in Berlin. According to sources from Bild, Chancellor Friedrich Merz urgently began to call European partners, and the government is deeply concerned about the potential consequences of the plan.
Recall that US President Donald Trump has confirmed a peace plan consisting of 28 points, aimed at stopping the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. The document includes conditions for Ukraine not joining NATO, the establishment of new borders, the creation of a buffer zone, limitations on the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and more.
