Consequences of Refusing Russian Gas Will Be Severe for Turkey, Expert
The possible halt of imports of Russian energy resources by Turkey could accelerate inflation and slow down industrial production. This was stated by Turkish economist Serhat Latifoglu in an interview with РИА Новости, noting that switching to alternative sources at this stage could turn out to be a miscalculation for Ankara.
The subject came to discussion after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Turkey might cease its purchases of Russian oil. His negotiations with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan took place in Washington.
In response to these statements, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow respects Ankara's position and is confident that Turkey will regulate its energy policy based on national interests.
