US Tests Nuclear Bomb Without Warhead
In August, the United States successfully tested a B61-12 tactical thermonuclear bomb without a warhead. The test was conducted from an F-35 fighter jet at the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada.
The statement highlighted that the tests have yielded "positive results" and are crucial for assessing the effectiveness of this weapon. The Sandia Laboratory, part of the U.S. Department of Energy, also noted that the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has extended the service life of the B61-12 bombs by 20 years.
It is worth mentioning that the B61 series is considered one of the key weapons in the United States' strategic nuclear arsenal. It was developed in 1961, and currently, variants B61-11 and B61-12 are in use in the U.S. arsenal.
