Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan Interrogated as Witness by Investigative Committee
A criminal case has been initiated regarding a leaked audio recording concerning the participation of clergymen in political actions. Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan has been interrogated by the Investigative Committee (IC) as a witness.
This information was reported by Factinfo, citing sources from the IC. On October 17, an audio recording was circulated, where Archbishop Nathan and the defrocked Father Yervand Yerjnkyan are discussing claims made against the Catholicos of All Armenians.
Following the release of the recording, the police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs submitted a report to the Investigative Committee concerning the obstruction or coercion of participation in gatherings, under Article 236, Part 3 of the Criminal Code.
The IC announced that no notice has been sent to the Catholicos concerning this case. Archbishop Nathan was interrogated as part of the preliminary investigation regarding the leaked audio recording.
Official sources have not confirmed reports circulating in the media that Archbishop Nathan has been summoned again by the IC concerning a different case.
