Investigation Launched Over Possible Leak of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Information
Representatives of the Norwegian Nobel Committee have initiated an investigation into the possible leak of information regarding this year's Nobel Peace Prize laureate, according to Bloomberg and the Norwegian newspaper Finansavisen.
Suspicions of a leak arose following a sharp increase in online betting related to the candidacy of Maria Corina Machado, which occurred shortly before the announcement of the Nobel Committee's decision.
The wife of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny, Yulia, was the leading candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize until Thursday. Around midnight (from Thursday night to Friday), Machado's odds were at 3.75%, trailing behind Navalnaya and U.S. President Donald Trump. However, within just two hours, this figure surged to 72.8%.
The director of the Nobel Institute, Christian Berg Harpviken, stated that the committee takes such leaks “very seriously.”
