US-Turkey Cooperation to Deepen in Nuclear Energy Sector
As reported by the Turkish state news agency Anadolu, new agreements signed between Turkey and the USA in the fields of liquefied natural gas and nuclear energy are set to enhance the strategic energy cooperation between the two countries.
Accordingly, the "Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Civil Nuclear Cooperation" signed in September aims to develop civil-oriented technologies and regulatory cooperation around them. In addition, another agreement, signed between Turkey's state-owned major oil and gas company BOTAŞ and an American company engaged in liquefied gas exports, will result in an annual import of 4 billion cubic meters of liquefied gas from the USA starting in 2026.
According to Ermenihaber, Bingham McCoun, a senior expert at Hudson University, commented on the new documents regarding energy cooperation between the two countries. He characterized the Turkey-USA "Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Civil Nuclear Cooperation" as a strategic move aimed at reducing Turkey's energy dependence on unstable suppliers. "From a nuclear perspective, the commissioning of American reactors will reduce prices for Turkish consumers and increase the stability of energy flows," he added.
It is noteworthy that the most recent and strategic document regarding energy cooperation between Turkey and the USA was signed on September 25 in Washington, in the presence of the leaders of both countries.
