Cairo Agreement with IAEA No Longer in Effect, Says Iran's Foreign Ministry
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has announced that the Cairo Agreement between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is no longer valid due to the activation of the snapback mechanism for reinstating UN sanctions against Tehran.
The senior Iranian diplomat made this statement today following a meeting with ambassadors, chargé d'affaires, and heads of foreign and international representations in Tehran during a conversation with reporters.
Araghchi noted that Iran has gone through all diplomatic phases to demonstrate the peaceful nature of its nuclear program and the country's goodwill, having continued cooperation and consultations, while presenting constructive and balanced proposals.
He emphasized that prior threats, including military actions and pressures from European countries, have not yielded results and have only complicated the negotiation process.
“Western countries now have no justification for obstructing cooperation or negotiations with Iran. Iran's positions are entirely legitimate and justified, and the country is ready to undertake any measures that will ensure confidence,” stated Iran's Foreign Minister.
It is important to note that the snapback mechanism was initiated by the European trio of France, Britain, and Germany.
