In Armenia, We Do Not Properly Honor Tuff, We Have No Statues or Monuments: Pashinyan
Armenia is a country of stones, yet we have a deficit of stone and have to import it. This was stated today by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the mining industry forum.
“As the pace of construction increased and the direct investments of the Armenian government began in the communities through subvention programs, we were astonished to register that there is a stone deficit in Armenia, even though we claim that Armenia is a country of stones,” he announced.
According to the Prime Minister, there are opportunities for us in the field of stone processing and extraction, as it is primarily a potential and a characteristic of our economy. He shared an experience from his visit to China, where he was equally surprised to see monuments made from stones, which further beautified the environment and gave character to the localities.
“Not only do we lack stone for construction, but also 60 percent of Armenia is built from tuff; however, we do not properly honor tuff and do not have a statue or monument made of tuff. For this reason, we have decided to address this gap in the near future together with the community of Artik. This will be a very important way to connect with nature and a step towards valuing what we have,” Pashinyan noted.
