I Have Sinned Against God: Hypocrites, Cry About Your Pain, Says Vardan Ghukasyan to the Authorities
“I have sinned against God, I have sinned against God, I have sinned against God.” This was the response of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan during a conversation with journalists when he learned that Nikol Pashinyan had decided to hold a rally in Ejmiatsin against the church.
“If they want to destroy the country, they are destroying the church and the family, and they are doing it now because they have instructions from foreign powers. The church and the family are what hold the country together, and now they are demolishing the school, removing Mesrop Mashtots, Armenian Christian history, and Ararat from the schools. As much as they want to come in with beautiful institutions from the side, from underneath, from above, trying to confuse the people. The people understand very well; you are destroying the Republic of Armenia, and that will not happen because the owner of this nation is God, so be at ease. You can do whatever you want; the church will not be destroyed based on a few clergymen. We all know well where those clergymen stand.
“You are so far from holiness, from purity, like Mount Ararat and the cannon’s roar. What right do you have to stone such people? Go ahead, a bunch of hypocrites, go cleanse yourselves, lament about your pain to God, and then think about the rest of the people,” Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan said in a conversation with journalists.
