Jamanak: The Government Will Resolve the Issue of Appointing Vahe Grigoryan as President of the Constitutional Court Differently
According to the Jamanak newspaper, the authorities initially had different calculations regarding the resolution of the situation created in the Constitutional Court. Specifically, our sources indicate that before the Venice Commission released a statement concerning Armenia's judicial system, the authorities intended to resolve the issue in the Constitutional Court in a manner similar to that of the Supreme Judicial Council, with the expectation that the members of the Constitutional Court would resign sequentially like the members of the Council.
However, as it seems, the authorities' plan did not succeed, and the members of the Constitutional Court have no intention of resigning at all.
According to Jamanak sources, since the authorities' plan for the resignations of the Constitutional Court members did not materialize, they have decided to resolve the matter differently and have also initiated constitutional amendments. Just the day before, in an interview with Radio Liberty, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted, "In the context of resolving the situation surrounding the Constitutional Court, constitutional amendments may also be implemented."
Moreover, he hinted that this should be done at the request of the people. The Constitution allows for this, requiring an initiative from 150,000 citizens. However, there are opinions in the law enforcement sector that the potential changes will not be made to resolve the crisis but rather to appoint Vahe Grigoryan as the President of the Constitutional Court.
