The U.S. Seeks to Resume Enriched Uranium Production
The United States is developing a plan that will allow for the swift resumption of enriched uranium production, announced U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum.
“We have allowed ourselves to become dependent on both China and Russia for critical minerals. It is unacceptable for the U.S. to purchase uranium from Russia. Therefore, Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and I are working to ensure that we have a program that will allow the U.S. to return to enriched uranium production as soon as possible,” Burgum told reporters aboard a flight from Arizona.
On September 15, U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright stated that the U.S. is not yet in a position to fully abandon purchases of enriched uranium from Russia.
