Azerbaijan Strives to Achieve Its Real Goals by Signing Agreement with Armenia: Axios
Azerbaijan seeks to establish closer ties with the United States in the fields of national security and technology, following the peace declaration brokered by the Trump administration, Axios reports.
"Azerbaijan is wedged between Russia and Iran, which are the sharpest thorns in Washington's side. It is also a major exporter of oil and gas and has well-equipped armed forces. The country has a history of cooperation with America, including providing air rights and fueling stations during the global war on terror. However, Azerbaijan's long history of conflict with its neighbor Armenia, which has a significant diaspora in the U.S., has left its mark on relations," the outlet notes.
In an interview at the Azerbaijani embassy, Ambassador Khazar Ibrahim told Axios that his government is now "working to establish working groups and develop relations in all areas—economy, energy, defense, politics, education, technology, artificial intelligence, whichever you would like."
"Let’s open a new page. Let’s work together not only for Armenian-Azerbaijani but also for Azerbaijani-American relations," the article states.
Ibrahim expressed gratitude to President Trump for advancing the peace process, noting that he is "100 percent deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize." The ambassador remarked, "In this very short time—about six months—he has been able to do what others have not been able to do for more than 30 years."
One U.S. official stated in an interview with the outlet that the compliments directed at the Trump administration were likely the main motivation for Azerbaijan to sign the peace agreement.
