Consequences of Failed Negotiations Between Putin and Trump Highlighted from Russia
Failed negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump will lead to a delay in the resolution process of the Ukrainian conflict. This was stated to Lenta.ru by State Duma Deputy Alexei Chepan.
“The only current concern relates to the potential influence of Europe on Trump. We know that France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have asked him to consider the EU's interests, and they are interested in prolonging the conflict. It's unclear how Trump will reconcile this: on the one hand, statements about a willingness to halt the war, and on the other, calls from NATO partners. Of course, these could have some effect on him,” Chepan believes.
At the same time, he expressed confidence that Putin would be able to explain to his American counterpart the necessity of addressing the root causes of the conflict. “If something doesn’t go well in these negotiations, the process will simply drag on,” the deputy said. “We see that Europe has chosen a policy of wearing Russia down. But as soon as the situation at the front worsens and new Ukrainian territories come under threat, the West will begin to speak differently.”
