Trump Signed as a Witness, Not a Guarantor: Marukyan on the Declaration Signed in Washington
Our authorities and the political and social figures serving them present the declaration signed in Washington as a trilateral document that implies trilateral obligations. This was stated by Edmond Marukyan, the president of the 'Enlightened Armenia' party, on his Facebook page.
“Naturally, we are being deceived once again. In reality, the declaration signed in Washington is bilateral and was signed between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, while U.S. President Donald Trump signed as a witness, not as a party or a guarantor, but as a witness. To prove my point, I present the official English version of the document where next to the name of the President of the United States it states 'Witnessed by:'
In the Armenian version on the same page of the Armenian government, for understandable reasons, that mention is absent...
First, let’s not deceive our people; let’s say what truly exists. I am also convinced that if we had negotiators, we would sign bilaterally with the U.S. and would not turn Azerbaijan into a partner of ours for a corridor. There will be a bilateral declaration with the U.S., but only after a change of power,” Marukyan wrote.
