Wildfires in Turkey Disrupt Airport Operations
Turkey's Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport has temporarily suspended flights due to ongoing forest fires in the region, reports the Milliyet newspaper. The airport is located in an area affected by the fires. Due to the forest fires, smoke, and the operation of firefighting aviation, the airport has halted aircraft arrivals and landings. Several flights arriving in Izmir have been redirected to other airports.
Flights are expected to resume as normal once the fires are brought under control. The online platform of the airport lists some scheduled flights as delayed, while many others have been canceled.
Earlier, Izmir’s governor Suleyman Elban announced that significant wildfires have erupted in three districts of the province. Several areas where the fire has reached residential neighborhoods have been evacuated. Strong winds, varying between 70 and 117 km/h, have exacerbated the situation.
