NATO Countries Purchase $21 Billion in Arms from the US
NATO allies in Washington have purchased nearly $21 billion worth of various types of arms from the United States in 2024, according to a written statement by Matthew Whitaker, the U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO, released by the State Department's press service.
“When Europe invests in its defense, it also directly supports job creation in the United States, strengthens our industrial base, and NATO's collective defense,” Whitaker said while commenting on the results of the alliance's summit in The Hague and the member countries' decision to increase defense spending.
He expressed hope that U.S. allies would reaffirm their commitments on this matter through action.
According to the U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO, the United States excels over its allies in terms of innovation in arms production. It is worth noting that NATO leaders have agreed to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP.
