Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Highlights Importance of Opening the 'Zangezur Corridor'
Baku and Yerevan are closer than ever to signing a peace agreement, stated Elchin Amirbekov, the special representative of the Azerbaijani President. However, according to the Azerbaijani official, two main obstacles must be removed for this to happen.
“Firstly, we are talking about the provisions in the Armenian Constitution that contain territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Secondly, there is a need to abandon the mediation mechanisms of the OSCE Minsk Group,” the official said.
Amirbekov also emphasized the importance of opening the 'Zangezur Corridor,' which would connect the main part of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Republic. “This 40-kilometer route will fundamentally change the logistical map of the region and strengthen stability,” he remarked.
Amirbekov expressed confidence that signing a peace agreement would open a new chapter for the entire South Caucasus.
