Captured Armenians in Baku Receive Care Packages from Families
The Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan have received care packages from their families. Zara Amatuni, the communications program manager at the Armenian office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), informed Sputnik Armenia about this development.
She confirmed that in June, representatives from the ICRC's Azerbaijan office visited the Armenian detainees in Baku, whose names were provided by their Armenian counterparts at the ICRC. “They received care packages from their families and had the opportunity to speak with their relatives over the phone,” Amatuni stated.
The meetings were conducted according to established protocols, with the detainees having separate meetings with Red Cross representatives. Amatuni also mentioned that the representatives visited businessman and former Prime Minister of Artsakh, Ruben Vardanyan.
The Armenian office of the ICRC reports that they have the number of individuals being held in Azerbaijan, but are unable to disclose that information publicly.
According to official data, 23 Armenians are currently held in Baku, of whom 5 were captured in 2020 and the rest in 2023. Trials have already concluded for 7 of these individuals, and there are existing guilty verdicts.
