Additional Traffic Congestion Expected in Yerevan, Says Avinyan
During preliminary discussions on the 2024 state budget at the National Assembly, Yerevan’s Mayor Tigran Avinyan stated, “The import of an additional 250 buses in Yerevan will definitely lead to increased traffic congestion. This will not only be due to this reason, but also because congestion will increase when we start to outline new bus lines in various areas designated solely for buses.”
“Yes, these congestions will occur. Our transportation system must serve the entire city with its full fleet. We should spend less time waiting for buses, so that I, you, and our colleagues can decide that we rarely need a car. The transportation system in Yerevan is such that it is more convenient for all of us to board a bus, use the metro, or take other means of transit, rather than getting stuck in traffic with our own cars,” he added.
He assured that there is not a single successful case in Europe that did not follow this path. “All those who have taken this approach have succeeded. Those who have delayed in going down this path are actually facing much more serious problems,” he emphasized.
