Criminal Case Launched on Charges of Treason and Espionage: Materials Transferred to Azerbaijan
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the transfer of certain materials from the National Archive to Azerbaijan, characterized by state treason and espionage. Law enforcement agencies have not specified the time period during which these materials were transferred or the nature of the materials in question.
It has been reported in the media that the National Security Service has arrested a leadership group of the National Archive for providing materials to the enemy.
The Investigative Committee of Armenia confirmed the existence of the criminal proceedings in a conversation with ‘Factinfo’. “The criminal proceedings carried out by the Main Investigation Department for crimes against the state, constitutional order, and public safety have been initiated due to state treason, as well as for collecting information that is harmful to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and external security of the Republic of Armenia by a representative of a foreign state, pursuant to Article 418, Part 1, and Article 424, Part 1, of the RA Criminal Code,” an official from the Investigative Committee stated in response to inquiries.
According to the same source, no employee of the National Archive has been arrested or detained in connection with this case. However, there is a defendant in the criminal proceedings, reportedly a former employee of the National Archive. The Investigative Committee has not disclosed further details, and it remains unclear when exactly the proceedings were initiated and what specific materials were transferred to Azerbaijan.
