Cyber Attacks on Armenian Government Websites
According to The Insider, in September 2024, the FBI published an indictment against a group of hackers operating under the 29155 unit of the Main Intelligence Agency (GRU). This unit gained notoriety in relation to the poisoning case of Sergei Skripal in Salisbury.
Back in 2017, The Insider revealed that hacker units were functioning within the GRU. At that time, the focus was on unit 26165, known as Fancy Bear or APT28, which is infamous for hacking the websites of Hillary Clinton, Emmanuel Macron, and various international organizations.
It was later determined that the Sandworm group (unit 74455) also operates under the auspices of the GRU, having created the destructive NotPetya virus, disabled Ukraine's power stations, and conducted attacks on NATO military facilities.
It has now been revealed that GRU hackers have launched attacks on Armenian government websites, including:
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs website - 13.11.2022, 22:51
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs website - 25.03.2023, 01:45
- Ministry of Health website - 13.05.2023, 21:40
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs website - 02.02.2024, 14:53
It is worth noting that in November 2022, Armenia faced a tense situation due to Azerbaijan's aggression in September.
