Andreasyan on Renaming the ‘Youth’ Metro Station
“This needs to be discussed in detail.” Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan commented on the proposal to rename the metro station ‘Youth’.
“This year marks the 150th anniversary of Avetik Isahakyan, and a celebratory committee has been formed, which includes various renowned intellectuals, members of the family, including Isahakyan's grandson. During the committee’s discussions, a suggestion was raised that perhaps, considering that Isahakyan's statue is also located nearby, and given the anniversary year, the municipality should consider the matter. According to the established procedures, the proposal has been submitted to the municipality; I believe it falls within the jurisdiction of the council’s decision,” she said.
Andreasyan emphasized that the area has history, the name is tied to that history, and they will examine the matter comprehensively. “At the same time, we have proposed to the municipality that the statue be made more visible, as various activities have developed around it, and the statue seems to have been overshadowed. Now we are waiting,” she noted.
