Negative Impact Expected: Simonian on Gyumri
I consider it logical that the party with the most votes should elect the mayor. This was stated by the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonian, during a conversation with reporters.
“I do not think that the other options will be viable in terms of time and reality; I believe it will have a negative impact on reforms in Gyumri. I do not think that this 'one-hour coalition' will be able to ensure normal operations,” Simonian noted.
He also mentioned that they did not suffer defeat in Gyumri, as the party received twice as many votes as the representative in second place. “In democratic countries, where everything is governed by rules, it is very rare for any party to gather 50+1 votes,” Simonian said, referring to their team's insufficient number of votes.
