Aliyev: Those Territories Have Been Occupied by Russia
Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev has stated that he does not foresee any prospects for peace between Russia and Ukraine in the near future. He made this remark during his speech at the international forum "Towards a New World Order."
“Personally, I, being a realist, do not see any prospects for peace between Ukraine and Russia in the visible future,” Aliyev said. He explained this by noting that both sides are unwilling to renounce their claims to the territories.
“Russia declared the occupied territories as part of Russia; how can they retreat from that? Ukraine, like the rest of the world, considers these occupied lands as part of Ukraine,” Aliyev added.
Azerbaijan also considers those lands as part of Ukraine. “How can they sacrifice that and say, 'No, this is not part of Ukraine'? Well, if that happens, it would mean that I do not understand something about international politics,” he noted, according to Azerbaijani media.
