US Response to China's Sudden Move
The US Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessen, expressed regret that China has raised tariffs on American imports to 84% instead of sitting down at the negotiating table. He made these remarks during an interview with Fox Business.
"I think it's unfortunate that China really doesn't want to negotiate. I can say that this escalation harms them directly," he said. "China needs to sit at the negotiating table," Bessen emphasized, noting that US exports to China exceed exports from the US to China by five times.
Earlier, China's State Tariff Commission announced that Beijing would raise tariffs on goods imported from the US to 84% starting April 10, in response to Washington's decision to impose tariffs of 104% on imports from China.
