Under What Conditions Will Trump Halt Attacks on Houthis?
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that American attacks against the Shiite Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement in Yemen will cease when it stops threatening navigation in the region.
On March 15, Trump ordered U.S. armed forces to take "decisive and powerful" actions against the Houthis, whom he previously labeled a terrorist organization. The U.S. Central Command has stated that the country has launched a large-scale operation in Yemen against the Houthis to protect American interests.
The U.S. leader also urged Iran to stop supporting the Houthis and not to threaten "the American people and their president." He added, "We are hitting them every day and night, stronger and stronger. Their capabilities are diminishing. Our attacks will continue as long as they pose a threat to freedom of navigation. The Houthi's choice is clear."
